The elections on the 27th will determine the destiny of Kenya. This is a time when Kenyans will decide whether to surrender
their fate to Narc and Kanu who have openly shown that they are anti-mwananchi - or Nyachae who has always served Kenya with
all energy.
Nyachae stands for true democracy, freedom and development. His detractors in Narc are portraying him as a lone ranger. They
are doing this because he refused to back their undemocratic sole presidential candidate nominations. They also fear because
he has a nationwide support unlike Kanu and Narc who only have a mandate in Central Province.
Let us evaluate Nyachaes records.
One Kenyan had this to say about Nyachae in a letter to EA Standard:
"In the aforesaid (Summit on KTN) programme, Nyachae reminded us of things, which we as Kenyans quickly forget. For instance
as Minister for Finance, he took practical steps whose effect or benefit was open for all to see. He limited the number and
size of vehicles at the disposal of government officials; sought to control use of telephones in Government ministries and
we even remember how he put his foot down to avoid unnecessary expenditure at the Moi Day celebrations that year. We remember
the frank report he gave in Mombasa that the Government was broke, only for the same to be confirmed at Mbagathi by officials
of the same government that opposed him.
These were very sensible measures because how many times have I personally, in the course of my work come across instances
where a Provincial Commissioner or a District Commissioner has at his disposal two Mercedes Benz cars, two Land Rovers, a
Daewoo car, a Peugeot 504 and a Mitsubishi Pajero or two?" The EA Standard Letters
The Nyaribari Chache MP said that while serving in the Treasury, he unearthed several shady financial deals involving senior
government officers. "These same officers have made the level of poverty in the country rise from 24 per to 46 per cent in
the last 17 years, exposing Kenyans to worst standards of living." He went on "Many Kenyans have no option but have to revert
to the old age kind of life and one will not be surprised to visit homes and find people using hides and sacks to cover themselves
since they cannot afford a simple mattress." Daily Nation Saturday, May 29, 1999
Kanu hawks were so afraid of Nyachae so they planted Asanyo to finish him. This is what Asanyo had to say: "We are on a mission
to ensure that Mr Nyachae is blocked from attending the next Kanu national Kanu delegates conference in where he might embarrass
us (Kanu)," he (Asanyo)said. Daily Nation Tuesday, June 1, 1999
"I have no ill motive against anybody but I will not be cowed to stop fighting for the interests of the common man and the
rampant corruption that has brought the country's economy to its knees," he (Nyachae)said.Daily Nation Saturday, June 26,
1999
